To give an idea of the level of restoration completed, below is just an example of some of the works carried out, more information can be found on the Restoration page of the website.
- Topsides, hull, deck and cockpit stripped to gel-coat base surface, several coats of 2 pack epoxy primer (International Gelshield 200), undercoat and two pack perfection top coat applied. Along with several coats of the latest International Paints Micron 350 anti-foul.
- All port lights, glass and hatches removed, professionally stripped, re-anodised and resealed. Glass and perspex replaced.
- Mast base cut out, new solid hardwood mast step machined, fitted and re-glassed.
- Rudder re-glassed, sealed, bearings replaced and refitted.
- Engine and gearbox upgraded to 43hp Volvo 2003T, shaft, stern gear and stuffing box removed, refurbished and refitted.
- New batteries, wiring, switches and Voltage Sensing relay fitted, along with a complete new 240v system installed.
The Dick Zaal designed Contest 33 is a well known and sought after
6 berth cruiser.
In 1972 Yachting Monthly described the Contest 33 as:
' A fast cruiser which well lives up to her name!'
and
'It takes a very special kind of boat to make you feel that even in the North Sea in November you could happily press on to Holland.'
